The Neighbor War

Introducing the first series here at People Tales!

Normally, I like to keep each tale contained in a single post but when I decided to tell the tale of The Neighbor War, I quickly realized it wouldn’t fit.  No, this saga will be made up of multiple chapters that span 9 hellish months in which 2 families waged psychological war on one another.

On one side, a young man (me) and his bride to be.  On the other, a single mother, her teenage son and her on and off boyfriend.  The Neighbor War is about doing whatever it takes to live in peace but more than that, it’s about how I learned not to let people walk all over me.

Throughout the tale you will read about angry late night encounters, threatening letters, angry racoons, the art of the ceiling thump, a flood and much more…

People Tales went live on August 26th, 2011.  Since that day, I’ve spent a lot of time writing tales and gearing up for the blog’s official launch…  Today!

People Tales is about the wonderful uniqueness of a perfect stranger and the impact they can have on a writer’s mind.  We encounter people tales every day. Tales can be found on buses, busy streets, quiet coffee shops and packed stadiums.  We pass people every day who inspire through incredible acts of kindness or frustrate through cold moments of anger.

Imagine somebody tripping in front of you and injuring themselves.  How do you react?  How did  the people around you react?  Who was kind?  Who ignored the situation?  Who laughed?  That one event can trigger millions of behaviors and each of them is original and unique.  It’s that individuality that separates the good fictional characters from the bad.

Here you will find tales of courage, happiness, despair, embarrassment and more.  These stories are full of laughs, tears, tension, suspense and countless other emotions and feelings that writers strive to convey in their work.  The people we pass every single day can have a tremendous effect on the characters we create and People Tales is a celebration of that phenomenon.  You will also find resources like this in addition to links, blogs, tutorials and more.

People Tales is an experiment.

It’s a look at how a writer’s ability to observe can greatly impact the stories he/she wants to tell.  Writers draw on personal experiences and the millions of character traits and quirks they see in the world every day.

People Tales is about the wonderful uniqueness of a perfect stranger.

It’s about the incredible moments and interactions we all witness on a daily basis.  I’m an aspiring screenwriter and a blogger.  For years, I’ve collected People Tales and constantly use them in my screenplays.  What inspires me is how a random encounter or observation can dramatically change a character or setting in my work.  You never know when an idea will hit.

This blog is a going to be made up of short tales as well as their impact on my personal writing journey.  A writer writes…
